Program Stages

Kids play on smaller courts with modified equipment to make it easier, and more fun to progress. Each stage builds skills and confidence at the right pace.

  • Blue Stage (Ages 3–5): Fundamental motor skills and coordination through play.
  • Red Stage (Ages 5–8): Basic tennis skills — rallying, footwork and fun games.
  • Orange Stage (Ages 8–10): Developing technique and strategy on larger courts.
  • Green Stage (Ages 10+): Advanced stroke work and matchplay skills on full-size courts.

Hot Shots FAQs

What is the Hot Shots program?
Hot Shots is Tennis Australia’s official starter tennis program for kids. It uses smaller courts, lower nets, modified balls, and smaller racquets to help children learn the game in a fun and supportive environment.
What ages can join Hot Shots?
The program is suitable for kids aged 3 to 12+, with different coloured ball stages (Blue, Red, Orange, Green) matched to their age and skill level.
What does my child need to bring?
Just bring a hat, sunscreen, drink bottle, and comfortable sports clothing. If your child doesn’t have a racquet yet, we can provide one for them to try.
Can I use an Active Kids Voucher?
Yes — Eastside Tennis Centre is an approved Active Kids provider. You can redeem your voucher towards the cost of your child’s Hot Shots program.
Will my child get to play matches?
Yes — as they progress through the program, players will learn rallying and matchplay skills. Fun matchplay and mini-competitions are part of the learning experience.
